Very low Lost Motion

 

By combining high torsional rigidity, exceptional tilting stiffness, reduced backlash and minimal synchronization error, ULTIMATE-TR delivers superior dynamic accuracy, even under the most demanding conditions: rapid load changes, high accelerations, abrupt motions and continuous duty cycles.

 

The challenge of minimizing tilting

 

Like ULTIMATE-CI, the TR version adopts a double-supported output architecture, with two bearings positioned on either side of the output shaft.
Unlike the standard version, however, ULTIMATE-TR uses cylindrical or tapered roller bearings to maximize both radial and axial stiffness.

This architecture provides exceptional tilting stiffness, which directly improves:

  • the angular stability of the pinion (and therefore meshing quality) in rack-and-pinion applications,

  • the protection of internal gear trains under extreme radial loads, allowing the gearbox to safely transmit higher torque than the CI version at equal service life, or to achieve longer life at equal load,

  • the reduction of the “tilting stiffness” contribution to dynamic accuracy loss during violent accelerations.

Result: precise, clean, and repeatable behavior—even with offset loads, very high accelerations, or intensive motion cycles.

 

Reinforced torsional rigidity and increased reliability

 

Like the standard version, ULTIMATE-TR is equipped with an ISO 9409-1 output flange instead of a male shaft. This design choice improves (see dedicated article):

  • torsional rigidity,

  • resistance to rapid torque reversals,

  • accuracy in high-speed cycles,

  • fatigue failure resistance of the mounting,

  • reliability in vibrating environments.

The ISO 9409-1 flange also provides a direct interface for mounting AGV / AMR wheels.

This increased global stiffness further reduces the torsional component of dynamic accuracy loss.

 

Long-term backlash stability

 

ULTIMATE-TR integrates Reckon’s premium helical gears, which are:

  • case-hardened and heat-treated,

  • generously dimensioned,

  • optimized for fatigue strength and repeated dynamic cycles,

  • designed with a helix angle reduced to the strict minimum in order to limit axial forces generated during meshing.

They guarantee:

  • long-term angular backlash stability,

  • excellent fatigue resistance,

  • reproducible behavior even under severe loading,

  • quiet operation thanks to the contact ratio offered by helical gearing.

This minimizes the “angular backlash” component of dynamic accuracy loss.

Extreme loads and reinforced tilting stiffness

 

The key difference of the TR version lies in the use of cylindrical or tapered roller bearings (depending on size).

Compared with the ball bearings used in the standard version, they provide:

  • significantly higher radial and axial load capacity,

  • ultra-stable shaft support under dynamic conditions,

  • much higher tilting stiffness,

  • improved endurance under repeated load cycles.

These bearings play a major role in the exceptional dynamic accuracy of ULTIMATE-TR.

 

Exceptional synchronization error

 

Like the CI version, ULTIMATE-TR uses a forged monobloc steel ring gear, broached or machined directly into the housing that accommodates the entire output stage.

This design greatly increases the overall structural stiffness of the assembly, ensures homogeneous gear meshing, and results in one of the lowest synchronization errors on the market.

 

Even better controlled dynamic behavior

 

The transmitted torque remains clean without oscillations, stable, and perfectly controlled, enabling accurate positioning even under high dynamics or offset loads. 

 

Simple, safe, and fast connection

 

As with ULTIMATE-CI, the connection to the motor shaft is ensured by a high-precision balanced coupling, designed to:

  • reduce parasitic loads on the motor bearings,

  • eliminate vibrations and resonances,

  • guarantee smooth and consistent operation.

Installation is fast, safe, and repeatable thanks to a single-bolt clamping system, and each gearbox is delivered with a dedicated motor adapter flange, ensuring immediate installation without adjustment.
