Precision pinions for planetary gearboxes
Carburized. Quenched. ground. Perfect.
All our planetary gearboxes and racks can be supplied with pinions.
High load capacity
All RECKON pinions are case-hardened, ground and finished to high precision standards. This manufacturing process ensures high load capacity, long service life and optimal meshing accuracy with RECKON precision gearboxes and racks.
The available precision classes (DIN 6 and DIN 5) incorporate a slight longitudinal crowning of the tooth profile (a few microns). This correction centres the contact pattern during torque transmission, stabilizes the lubricant film and protects the tooth edges against edge loading and premature wear. Pinions with crowned teeth remain fully interchangeable with standard pinions, as the crowning does not alter the functional dimensions of the gear.
To ensure optimal concentricity and preserve system precision, we recommend assembly of the pinion onto the shaft in our workshop.
Bore configurations
Ground bore with keyway
Pinions supplied with a ground bore and keyway are suitable for applications with:
-
moderate peak torqu
-
limited number of reversals
- moderate dynamic loads
Typical applications include positioning axes or automation systems with moderate dynamic requirements (e.g. Access, Lively and Wiser series).
In highly dynamic systems, the keyway may become the limiting element of the drivetrain. For this reason, this solution is not recommended for applications with frequent direction changes or high acceleration torque.
DIN 5480 splined bore
For high torque transmission and dynamic motion systems, RECKON offers pinions with DIN 5480 involute splines.
This solution provides:
- improved torque transmission
- excellent centering accuracy
- superior reliability under frequent acceleration and reversal cycles
DIN 5480 splines are available on the following sizes:
- Access : 60 – 70 – 90 – 120
- X-Treme : 60 – 75 – 100 – 140
- Booster : 60 – 90 – 120
- Lively : 60 – 90 – 120 – 140 – 155
Pinions for rotating output flanges (for our Spirit or Ultimate series ISO 9409-1-A flange)
The rotating output flange includes a centering diametre and threaded holes, to locate the pinion precisely. However, depending on the number of teeth, you'll have to use either a flat pinion that you can screw on the rotating flange, or a pinion and adapter assembly.
A pinion with an adapter plate can be made to fit the Spirit or Ultimate output flanges, for applications where stiffness has to be maximized (machine-tool etc.). In such case we recommend to use the tapered-roller bearing version of Ultimate, in order to maximize stiffness.
Pinions for Shrink Disks
This is our preferred solution for applications that require both a high torque and exceptional precision, as shrink disks provide a secure and precise fit.
Important Considerations:
- Proper shrink disk assembly requires a careful degreasing of the bore and shaft surfaces
- You'll find high-quality shrink disks from the following suppliers: Ringfeder, KTR, Ringspann, Fenner Drives, UST Tsubaki (we do not supply shrink disks)
