ISO 9409-1 flange vs. male shaft
1. For stiffness
In most industrial machines, a flange connection is:
-
more rigid,
-
more stable,
-
and less sensitive to micro-movements than a male-shaft + coupling + clamping interface.
2. For safety
In the presence of vibrations, a male shaft clamped with a hub can experience:
-
microscopic slippage,
-
progressive misalignment,
-
fretting,
-
or gradual loosening (if the assembly is not perfectly executed).
An ISO flange, on the other hand, eliminates this failure mode because:
-
it provides rigid axial and radial support,
-
the connection is geometrically constrained,
-
there is no interface likely to slip,
-
and the load is distributed across several screws secured with thread-locker.
3. For convenience
The ISO 9409-1 flange is also very convenient for mounting your AGV / AMR wheel!
